The gallbladder:-<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Is a pear shaped organ
\n\u2022 Is situated under the liver in the abdomen
\n\u2022 Stores bile (a mixture of fluids, fat and cholesterol)
\n\u2022 Helps vitamins and nutrients to be absorbed easily into the blood<\/p>\n

Gallbladder Problems – Symptoms<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Pain
\n– Usually occurs in the upper abdomen
\n– Could be mild and infrequent or severe and frequent
\n– Pain may radiate to the back and chest
\n\u2022 Nausea or Vomiting
\n\u2022 Acid reflux and gas
\n\u2022 Fever or Chills (usually sign of an infection)
\n\u2022 Chronic Diarrhea (More than four bowel movements a day, continuously for weeks)
\n\u2022 Jaundice
\n\u2022 Unusual Stools or Urine
\n– Stools will be light in colour
\n– Urine will be dark and yellow
\n– Usually a symptom of bile duct blocks<\/p>\n

Gallbladder Diseases<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Cholecystitis- Is the inflammation of the gallbladder(can be acute or chronic)
\n\u2022 Gallstones- Small, hard deposits, usually harmless, but if infected can cause inflammation and pain
\n\u2022 Choledocholithiasis \u2013 Common bile duct stones which occur in the tube that joins the gall bladder to the intestines.<\/p>\n

Infection can cause Pain and Inflammation<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Acalculous gallbladder disease – Similar symptoms as gallstones<\/a> but there is an absence of gallstones
\n\u2022 Bile duct infection – Common bile duct stones cause infection in the bile duct channel. May need emergency treatment
\n\u2022 Abscess of the Gallbladder \u2013 Gallstones infect gallbladder causing pus (empyema) Causes severe abdominal pain. Needs immediate attention
\n\u2022 Gallstone Ileus \u2013 Gallstones move into the intestine blocking it. Prevalent among the elderly
\n\u2022 Perforated Gallbladder – Occurs when gallstones are not treated for too long. Perforates the gallbladder. Can be fatal since infection will spread quickly
\n\u2022 Gallbladder Polyps – Growths in the gallbladder which can be benign. Not dangerous, but larger ones may have to be removed
\n\u2022 Porcelain Gallbladders – Calcium deposits stiffen the walls of the gallbladder, making them rigid.
\n\u2022 Gallbladder Cancer – Is rare but can spread fast if undetected<\/p>\n
