Sweet Red Poha Dumplings/Aval Kozhukattai
Aval kozhukattai is a delicious sweet poha kozhukattai made with poha, jaggery and cardamom. By adding poha to this sweet dish, we profit from poha’s numerous health benefits. This is a simple & quick recipe that can be enjoyed by adults and children alike.
Ingredients:
- Red poha (aval) – 1 cup
- Jaggery – ½ cup
- Water – 1¼ cup
- Freshly grated coconut – ¼ cup
- Cardamom powder – 1 tsp
- Ghee – 2 tsp
To Grind:
- Grind the aval along with cardamom into a coarse powder.
- Heat jaggery in a kadai with water.
- Wait till the jaggery melts and the mixture starts to boil. Add ghee.
- To this, add the coarse powder of aval and cardamom.
- Keep stirring till the mixture thickens.
- Now add the coconut and mix once again.
- Transfer to a bowl and allow the mixture to cool.
- Once cooled, make small balls and steam them for 7-8 minutes.
- Serve!
