Kauvery Hospital, Salem continues to strengthen its position in advanced cardiac care by successfully performing two highly specialized heart bypass surgeries known as Total Arterial Revascularization. Two male patients aged 58 and 52 came to the hospital with severe chest pain during exertion for nearly two weeks. After undergoing a coronary angiogram, they were found to have critical blocks in the main artery supplying blood to the heart along with multiple other vessel blockages, which placed them at high risk for a major heart attack.
In most conventional bypass surgeries, veins are taken from the leg or hand to reroute blood flow. However, in these cases, the expert CTVS team at Kauvery Hospital opted for a superior and more durable approach by using both the internal mammary arteries located inside the chest (LIMA and RIMA). These arteries are known to provide stronger, long-lasting blood supply to the heart. The surgeries were performed using the Off-Pump technique — meaning the heart continued beating throughout the procedure — and without making any additional incisions on the patient’s body. This advanced method resulted in reduced pain, minimal scarring, quicker mobilization, and faster recovery for both patients.
The procedures were meticulously planned and executed, ensuring smooth post-operative progress.
