Dr Arun M
Dr. Arun M is a TRANSFUSION MEDICINE specialist with comprehensive training and experience in clinical transfusion practice, apheresis, patient blood management, and transfusion transmitted disease testing. He completed MBBS from Vinayaka Mission Medical College, Karaikal, followed by MD in Transfusion Medicine from AIIMS Jodhpur, a TMC Fellowship in Blood Component Therapy and Apheresis Technology at Tata Memorial Centre, and a PDCC in transfusion transmitted disease testing from Sree Chitra Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology.
His primary clinical and academic interests include immunohematology, apheresis, optimization of transfusion practices in high risk settings such as NICU, obstetrics, cardiac surgery and hematology oncology, and health economics–driven transfusion policy. He has contributed to research on therapeutic plasma exchange in ANCA associated rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis and anti GBM disease, convalescent plasma in COVID 19, and the cost effectiveness of routine dengue screening among blood donors in Kerala.
Dr. Arun has multiple peer reviewed publications covering neonatal transfusion practices, hemovigilance, transfusion reactions, lupus anticoagulant, COVID 19 era blood product utilization, platelet dysfunction, ABO discrepancies, donor reaction prevention, and rare complications such as hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis secondary to dengue. He has presented his work through oral, poster, and video presentations at major national and international meetings including TRANSCON, TRANSMEDCON, and the XX Annual AATM Congress, and has received distinctions such as the ISBTI Postgraduate Fellowship, 1st place in e-poster presentation and quiz prizes, and the Prof. J.G. Jolly Award.
He is an active member of professional bodies including AABB, ISBT, ISBTI, IMA and ISTM and has undergone advanced workshops and faculty development programs in immunohematology, flow cytometry, transplant immunology, informatics, and medical education in transfusion medicine. His prior experience spans bone marrow transplant services and senior resident/fellowship roles at leading tertiary care centers, including Tata Memorial Centre and other high volume teaching hospitals, reflecting a strong commitment to high quality, multidisciplinary transfusion care.
