Dr. Arunkumar Krishnasamy

Dr. ArunKumar Krishnasamy is a highly accomplished Senior Consultant in Cardiothoracic Surgery with extensive training and expertise in complex cardiac and thoracic procedures. He completed his MBBS, MS in General Surgery, and MCh in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery from Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai. He also holds a DNB in Cardiothoracic Surgery from the National Board of Examinations, FMAS from the Indian Medical Association, and FRCS (Cardiothoracic Surgery) from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.

Dr. ArunKumar’s areas of expertise include coronary artery bypass surgery (on-pump and off-pump), management of mechanical complications of ischemic heart disease (such as VSR and acute ischemic mitral regurgitation), valve replacements and repairs, adult and congenital heart diseases, and minimally invasive cardiac surgeries including CABG, ASD, MVR, and AVR.

Dr. Arun has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to the field of cardiothoracic surgery with several prestigious awards. He was awarded the FRCS in Cardiothoracic Surgery by the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh in 2019. In 2018, he received the MGR Rathna Award from the Government of Sri Lanka. His academic excellence was acknowledged with the Dr. M.G.R. Medical University Medal and the Mrs. Suseela Santhosam Memorial Gold Medal, presented by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in 2012. Earlier in his career, he was conferred the Gold Medal in General Surgery by the Chennai City Chapter during the Dr. Mohan Memorial Gold Medal Examination in 2009. His innovative work in cardiac surgery earned him the TED Award at CMC Vellore in 2013. Dr. Arun has also demonstrated academic brilliance by winning first prizes in quizzes conducted by the Association of Surgeons of India, the Indian Association of Pediatrics, and the Indian Association of Physicians.

He is also skilled in thoracic surgeries like decortication, lobectomy, pneumonectomy, and mediastinal surgeries including minimally invasive thymectomy and tumor excision. His expertise extends to complex aortic surgeries (aneurysm, dissection, and debranching), vascular support for TAVR/EVAR, and advanced postoperative care involving ECMO, Centrimag, and CRRT in patients with acute coronary syndrome and post-cardiotomy LV dysfunction.

• Completed over 250 open-heart surgeries in children with acyanotic, cyanotic, and complex congenital heart diseases, including infants weighing as little as 2 kg.
