Dr. Meena Umachander Thiagarajan

Dr. Meena Umachander is a highly accomplished Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with extensive expertise spanning over four decades. She has made remarkable contributions to women’s health through her clinical excellence, academic leadership, and dedication to patient care.

She completed her MBBS from Madurai Medical College (1980), followed by a DGO from Madras Medical College (1983) and an MD in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from Stanley Medical College (1986). To further enhance her surgical expertise, she pursued Fellowships in Gynaec Endoscopy (Laparoscopy and Hysteroscopy) at John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, UK (1989) and Heidelberg, Germany (1990). In addition, she obtained an MS in Epidemiology from the University of Pennsylvania, USA (1994), adding a strong research and analytical dimension to her medical practice.

Dr. Meena served as Assistant Professor and later Professor at the Madras Medical College and Government Hospital for Women and Children, Egmore, Chennai, from 1989 to 2014. She retired as the Head of Department (Director) of the institution in 2014 after an illustrious academic and administrative career.

Since 2014, she has been associated with Kauvery Hospital, Alwarpet, continuing her commitment to providing compassionate, evidence-based care to women.

Her areas of specialization include Vaginal Hysterectomies and other advanced vaginal surgeries, where she is widely respected for her surgical precision and patient-centered approach.
