Dr Velmurugan R
Dr. R. Velmurugan is a Senior Paediatric Surgeon with more than 30 years of teaching experience and 35 years of service in the Tamil Nadu Government. He retired from Tamil Nadu Government service in 2025. His special clinical interests include reconstructive paediatric urology and complex genital and urinary tract reconstruction.
He completed his MBBS, M.S. in General Surgery and M.Ch. in Paediatric Surgery from Madras Medical College. He is also a Fellow of the Society of Paediatric Urology (FSPU), awarded in 2024.
He has served as teaching faculty for more than 30 years and was formerly Professor & Head of the Department of Paediatric Surgery. He has held several professional leadership and academic positions, including Past Chairman of the Indian Society of Paediatric Urology, Past Chairman of the Chennai City Paediatric Surgeon Association, Former Head of the Apex Committee on Intersex Disorders, Tamil Nadu, and Hon. Secretary of the Tamil Nadu & Pondicherry Chapter of IAPS.
He has also contributed to policy and guidelines by formulating DSD / Intersex Treatment Guidelines for the Government of Tamil Nadu.
