Dr. Yamini Kannappan

Dr.Yamini Kannappan, MBBS, DPM, DNB, is currently Consultant Psychiatrist, Kauvery Hospital, Chennai.

She graduated from the prestigious Madras Medical College in 2001 bagging honours in Clinical Medicine and Forensic Medicine. She went on to pursue her post-graduation in Psychiatry from the Institute of Mental Health in 2004 and Diplomat Psychiatry from Schizophrenia Research Foundation in 2011. She was awarded the Dr. Sarada Menon Gold Medal for topping the country in the Diplomat National Board Postgraduate Psychiatry examinations held by the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi in 2011.

Having been in active clinical practice for the last 13 years, she has also to her credit won the Practising Psychiatrist Award for the year 2009 awarded by the Tamil Nadu branch of the Indian Psychiatric Society.

Apart from her keen academic interests, she has an immense experience in the field of psychiatric research, having held the position of Research Officer for the Indian Council of Medical Research for a period of 4 years from 2005 to 2009. She also won the Young Researcher Award for her study on The Correlates of Insight In Schizophrenia in the International Conference on Schizophrenia held in Chennai in 2010.

She is Convenor, Health and Well-being wing of Indian Women Network, Confederation of Indian Industries – Tamil Nadu for the year 2017-2018. She is also a member of the Provincial Child Safeguarding Committee for the current year. Being an active campaigner of Mental Health she has been promoting awareness regarding mental health issues in various media platforms. Her special areas of interest include Addiction & Geriatric Psychiatry.
