Restart a heart – “lend your hands to save a life” was launched as a program on Women’s day (ie)March 8th 2022, to create awareness amongst the common people regarding the importance of bystander CPR when a patient is in cardiac arrest. As we know only about 5-10% Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) survive, we at Kauvery hospital’s Emergency Department, want to strive to improve the outcomes of OHCA by creating awareness regarding early recognition of cardiac arrest. We wanted to give the formal training for the common people to perform high quality CPR after recognising a cardiac arrest, with prompt and early initiation of high quality CPR and thereby improving the chain of survival in a cardiac arrest patient.

We started with about 80 women participants between 18 – 80 yrs of age on women’s day and following that we have in the last 5 months extensively managed to reach out to various colleges, corporate companies, occupational health centres of prominent factories, educational institutes, residential societies, sports players and in recent times even trained auto drivers. As autos more like mobile ambulances – it was important to train auto drivers in delivering this first aid skill. We trained 50 auto drivers in Basic Life Support and delivering high quality CPR over 2 consecutive weeks and the vision is to spread the awareness & training of this important skill to many more.

By lending our hands to save a life – we can make a difference to somebody’s loved one somewhere.
