A Sudden Storm from a Simple Drip

Patient: A 53-year-old lady from a humble background who suffered a severe allergic reaction after receiving a multivitamin injection.

Diagnosis: Drug-induced allergic reaction that may have caused coronary artery spasm (allergic vasospasm) mimicking a heart attack.

Patient's Story

A 53-year-old lady visited her nearby health centre for a  multivitamin injection, hoping to get some energy. Instead, within five minutes, she suffered a severe reaction. She developed sudden chest pain, breathing difficulty, swollen lips, and red rashes all over her face and upper body. She felt extremely dizzy, sweated heavily, and even fainted.

The clinic stopped the drip immediately. Fearing a serious heart attack, they rushed her to the Emergency Room at Heart City, Kauvery Hospital. The patient’s husband and daughter were extremely anxious, worried, and distressed about her condition. They feared the worst.

Conclusion

Our emergency team immediately took charge to check her heart. Fortunately, the heart scans and blood tests came back completely normal. There was no sign of a heart attack or any permanent heart damage. Her severe chest pain and shock were actually caused by a sudden, intense allergic reaction to the multivitamin injection, which may have briefly stressed her blood vessels. When we broke the good news to her family, their fear turned into immense relief and joy. After syaying under observation overnight, she was completely stable and happily discharged the very next day.
