Another informative edition of K-Way welcomes you all on the morning of 1st July.

Happy Doctors Day!

Doctors are the pillars of our healthcare system, working selflessly to diagnose, treat, and comfort their patients. From emergency room doctors to specialists, general practitioners to surgeons, each and every one of their services plays a vital role in keeping the patient safe.

On this day, I would like to recall one of the most significant contributions to mankind by a doctor. Yes, I am talking about Dr Jonas Salk who invented the transformative polio vaccine. The 1940s saw the emergence of polio as a crippling disease which struck fear in the hearts of adults and children alike. Working tirelessly, Dr Salk invented the polio vaccine which he first tested on himself and his family to ensure its safety. In doing so, he became a role model for selfless service, inspiring doctors all over the world. [Read full message]

A 39-year-old gentleman with a diabetic condition, who was recovering from COVID-19 in September 2020, had sudden severe breathing difficulty and chest pain, and was taken to a nearby hospital in October 2020 and was diagnosed with acute heart attack, with severe left ventricular dysfunction and coronary angiography confirming severe three vessel coronary artery disease. Given that it was the time of rampant COVID-19 he was treated conservatively and was advised to get an MRI of heart. He was assessed with the results in 2 major cardiac centres and declined angioplasty or bypass surgery, as it was deemed high-risk, especially given his recent COVID, and was advised to continue medical treatment for his severe heart failure along with fluid restriction of 1 L per day.
