Chennai, 30th July 2024 – Kauvery Hospital, a leading healthcare provider in India, proudly announces a groundbreaking achievement in performing a complex RF Ablation procedure to treat Atrial Fibrillation in a patient from Africa. This successful intervention underscores Kauvery Hospital’s commitment to delivering world-class medical care and advanced cardiac treatments to patients worldwide. Our team of renowned cardiologists and state-of-the-art facilities continue to set new standards in international healthcare excellence.
Recently, Kauvery Hospital, Vadapalani, treated a 44-year-old female patient from North Sudan who was suffering from heart failure due to a heart rhythm problem. Admitted to the Department of Cardiac Electrophysiology, the patient underwent a Cardiac Electrophysiology study and was diagnosed with “Atrial fibrillation.” Without any other heart-related ailments, she underwent a nonsurgical percutaneous procedure called “Radiofrequency ablation.” The patient improved well after the procedure and was discharged within two days.
Atrial fibrillation is a heart rhythm disorder, where the upper chambers of the heart beat in a chaotic way, causing fast and irregular heartbeats. This patient had difficulty in breathing and palpitations, which were incapacitating her day-to-day physical activities. Atrial fibrillation can occur in young persons due to obesity, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus. This patient had all three risk factors. Pulmonary veins are the usual source of atrial fibrillation, and Radiofrequency ablation is performed to electrically silence these pulmonary veins.
Dr. Deep Chandh Raja, the lead Cardiac Electrophysiologist at the hospital, stated, “Atrial fibrillation is becoming more of a problem in the younger age groups less than 60 years. It can cause palpitations and also heart failure if not addressed at an early stage. In this patient, all the triggers of atrial fibrillation were removed and risk factors were also addressed.”
Dr. Aravindan Selvaraj, Co-Founder & Executive Director of Kauvery Hospital, added, “We congratulate the team of Cardiac Electrophysiologists, Cardiac Anesthetists, and Intensive Care Physicians for their dedication and expertise in significantly improving the health of this patient. We are proud that our ‘Atrial Fibrillation’ clinic at Vadapalani, led by Dr. Deep Chandh Raja, is providing state-of-the-art care to our own people as well as patients from all over the globe.”
The patient had previously been declined the procedure in Egypt, Sudan, and Italy before arriving at Kauvery Hospital, Vadapalani. The successful treatment highlights the hospital’s commitment to medical tourism and its ability to address complex cardiac issues through a dedicated “Atrial Fibrillation Outpatient Clinic.”
The patient had diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and obesity. A comprehensive treatment plan addressing all these risk factors has been provided to her, ensuring a holistic approach to her health and recovery.
