Sweet Red Poha Dumplings/Aval Kozhukattai

Aval kozhukattai is a delicious sweet poha kozhukattai made with poha, jaggery and cardamom. By adding poha to this sweet dish, we profit from poha’s numerous health benefits. This is a simple & quick recipe that can be enjoyed by adults and children alike.

Sweet Red Poha Dumplings/Aval Kozhukattai


  • Red poha (aval) – 1 cup
  • Jaggery – ½ cup
  • Water – 1¼ cup
  • Freshly grated coconut – ¼ cup
  • Cardamom powder – 1 tsp
  • Ghee – 2 tsp

To Grind:

  • Grind the aval along with cardamom into a coarse powder.
  • Heat jaggery in a kadai with water.
  • Wait till the jaggery melts and the mixture starts to boil. Add ghee.
  • To this, add the coarse powder of aval and cardamom.
  • Keep stirring till the mixture thickens.
  • Now add the coconut and mix once again.
  • Transfer to a bowl and allow the mixture to cool.
  • Once cooled, make small balls and steam them for 7-8 minutes.
  • Serve!
