Dear K-Way Readers,

Wishing you all a joyous and prosperous New Year 2026! 🎉 As the editor of K-Way, I extend my warmest greetings to all Kauverians and our valued patients.

The World Oral Health Day’s theme for 2026, “A Happy Mouth is a Happy Life”, resonates profoundly with our mission at Kauvery Hospital. This poignant slogan underscores the intricate link between oral health and overall well-being. As the adage goes, “You are what you eat.” and it all starts in your mouth. A balanced diet, coupled with good oral hygiene, lays the foundation for a healthy life.

In this fast-paced world, food is often gulped rather than chewed. The simple excuse for everyone is “No time!” Well, it’s high time we make time – or rather, use time wisely 😊. A happy mouth is not just a beautiful smile, it’s a gateway to confidence, meaningful connections, and overall wellness. Conversely, poor oral health can lead to social isolation, systemic diseases like heart disease and diabetes, and even mental health concerns. Research shows that the formation of plaque in our teeth can serve as a warning sign for vascular health, while lifestyle choices such as smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can have far-reaching consequences, impacting our physical and mental health and relationships, and resulting in financial instability ultimately.

On the other hand, “A Happy Mouth is a Happy Life” has an inner meaning beyond the science behind it. As an ancient Tamil proverb says, “வாய்விட்டு வந்ததை வாளால் வெட்ட முடியாது.”, which translates to “Words spoken cannot be cut with a sword.” This reminds us that words can uplift or harm, and once spoken, cannot be taken back. Let’s choose kindness, empathy, and positivity. Let us speak words that inspire, encourage, and heal. By fostering a culture of understanding and respect, we can create a ripple effect of compassion and joy.

As another wise saying goes, “நகைந்த முகத்தோடு வாழ், நோய்கள் விலகும்.”, meaning “Laugh from your heart, laugh well through the mouth, and your diseases will fly away.” 😊 So, let’s make laughter a part of our daily lives and cultivate a sense of joy and well-being.

At Kauvery Hospital, we believe in embracing the Kauvery culture of empathy and closeness, where our doctors and staff become an extension of your family. We understand that healthcare goes beyond addressing health conditions. Our patients are not just medical cases; they’re individuals with stories, hopes, and loved ones. We strive to create a safe, supportive environment where you feel heard and understood, and are treated with dignity.

As a family physician, I’m inspired by the dual meaning of “A Happy Mouth is a Happy Life.” Let’s prioritize our oral health, make informed lifestyle choices, and nurture our relationships with kindness and compassion. May this new year bring you love, laughter, and cherished moments, and may our collective efforts create a healthier, happier world.

We hope you have a wonderful 2026! 🎉 Let’s make “A Happy Mouth is a Happy Life” a reality!

Wishing you all a Happy 2026 – A Happy Mouth and a Happy Life always! 😊

When Healing Found Its Way

Dear readers, in a hospital healing is often measured through reports, recovery timelines, and clinical outcomes. Yet, some of the most meaningful moments of care unfold quietly through a conversation, a smile, or the simple act of being present.

As healthcare professionals, our responsibility extends beyond clinical expertise. Understanding the emotional well-being of patients and their caretakers is an essential part of compassionate care. There are days when this responsibility is carried despite our own emotional fatigue. Even on difficult days, we choose empathy, kindness, and reassurance because patients often remember how we made them feel long after the treatment ends.

On one such demanding day, I noticed a patient sitting quietly, she was a 64-year-old woman undergoing treatment for endometrial carcinoma, having already faced surgery and chemotherapy. What stood out was not her diagnosis, but her concern for her family particularly her daughter. Like many mothers, she feared becoming a burden more than she feared the illness itself.

As we spoke, I found myself connecting with her on a deeper level. At that time, I too was undergoing something deeply personal, my own mother was receiving clinical treatment. Though our circumstances were different, our emotions were strikingly similar. That shared understanding created an unspoken bond built on empathy rather than words.

Throughout her hospital stay, recovery was challenging. Yet, her determination and inner strength remained unwavering. Day after day, she faced each setback with willpower and hope. Her courage became the foundation of her healing journey, and in time, she successfully overcame the challenges of treatment.

Witnessing her strength was deeply moving. At a time when I felt emotionally drained, her perseverance became a source of inspiration. She reminded me that healing is not confined to medicines and procedures it is also nurtured through understanding, trust, and human connection.

This experience reinforced an important truth: patients are not merely cases or bed numbers. They are individuals with stories, fears, and extraordinary strength. Often, they teach us as much as we care for them.

Healing is a shared journey. When empathy leads our service, both patients and caregivers find strength, purpose, and renewed faith in the power of compassionate care.

Kauvery Hospital announced the launch of its one-tap ‘SOS’ emergency feature on the Kauvery KARE app, designed to simplify and accelerate access to emergency medical care. The feature enables users to receive immediate medical support with just a single tap, and without the need to remember emergency numbers or explain their location during critical moments.

In emergency situations, panic, confusion, or unfamiliar surroundings often make it difficult for patients or bystanders to communicate essential details to emergency services. Kauvery Hospital’s SOS feature addresses this challenge by automatically capturing the user’s location through GPS, allowing the nearest ambulance to be dispatched instantly to the exact location.

At the same time, the SOS feature enables the user or bystander to connect with a doctor from Kauvery via a 24/7 video call system, ensuring real-time medical guidance and reassurance until emergency help arrives. This seamless integration of ambulance services and live medical consultation helps bridge the crucial gap between the onset of an emergency and hospital care.
