Dear K-Way readers and our dear doctors

Today, on 1st July, we celebrate Doctors’ Day. But more than that, people need to know why we chose this path.

Medicine is the only profession where you’re invited into a stranger’s life at their most vulnerable moment. They hand you their fear, their pain, their hope, and they trust you to carry it.

That’s not just a job. It’s a responsibility.

We practice an art built on science.

We interpret ECGs, lab investigations, and scans, but we also read silence, hesitation, and the question a patient is too afraid to ask. We balance evidence with empathy, data with dignity.

That balance is what makes us physicians.

We never stop learning.

No textbook prepares you for the 2 AM decision, the unexpected turn, or the family that needs you to explain the impossible in plain words. Every patient teaches us something. Every mistake makes us better. That hunger to learn keeps medicine alive.

And we serve, often quietly.

Our best victories don’t make headlines. They walk out of the hospital and go back to living. A child breathing easier. A father dancing at his daughter’s wedding. A mother holding her newborn. We don’t always get thank-you notes, but we carry those moments in our hearts. That’s our reward.

This past year has tested us: long hours, tough decisions, and the weight of responsibility. Yet, you showed up. You adapted. You mentored. You comforted. You healed. That is excellence. That is commitment.

But let me say this too: as we care for others, we must care for ourselves. Rest is not weakness. Asking for help is not failure. Protecting your health is part of protecting your patients.

So today, let’s renew our vow:

To heal with skill, to learn with humility, and to serve with compassion.

To lead with integrity, to collaborate without ego, and to lift each other when the load gets heavy.

The lamp of medicine is passed from one generation to the next. Today, we carry it. Tomorrow, we pass it on, brighter, steadier, and warmer than before.

Thank you for your dedication, your resilience, and your humanity.

Happy Doctors’ Day to all.

Have a wonderful month ahead!

I would love to know what you think about our monthly newsletter. Feel free to give your feedback via email [email protected].

The Human Touch – A Birthday That Became a Lifetime Memory

Ms. Monica
Ms Monica
Service Excellence

Dear readers, in today’s healthcare environment, we are fortunate to have advanced treatments, sophisticated diagnostics, and world-class facilities that help us care for patients better than ever before. Yet amidst all these advancements, one thing remains timeless and irreplaceable, that is the human touch. A kind word, a listening ear, a thoughtful gesture, or a moment of genuine empathy can have a profound impact on a patient’s journey.

As healthcare professionals, we often focus on diagnoses, treatments, and outcomes. However, some experiences remind us that healing extends beyond medicine. One such experience left a lasting impression on me and reinforced why compassion remains at the heart of healthcare.

It was during my routine rounds, I met an elderly couple in their seventies. They appeared like any other patient and caregiver. The gentleman had been admitted following a fall, believing it to be a simple accident. However, further investigations revealed something far more devastating, Stage IV brain cancer.
The diagnosis changed everything.

As I spent time speaking with them, I came to know that they had no children. Yet what struck me most was not their circumstance, but the extraordinary bond they shared. Decades of companionship were visible in the way they looked at each other, spoke to each other, and found comfort in each other’s presence.

During our conversation, I casually asked about their plans for the next day. With a gentle smile, they shared that it was the patient’s birthday. His wife quietly mentioned that they had not celebrated birthdays for many years with tears in her eyes.

For a moment, there was silence. What followed was a moment I will never forget.

The reality of their situation was heart-breaking. We could not change the diagnosis. Perhaps we could give them a moment of happiness, a memory that would outlive the pain of the present.

And so, our team came together. We decorated a room with balloons, arranged a birthday cake, and gathered colleagues who wanted to be part of something meaningful. When the patient entered the room and saw what awaited him, he was overwhelmed. As the team sang “Happy Birthday,” his wife wrapped her arms around him, and broke down in tears.

In that moment, the hospital room transformed into something extraordinary. It was no longer a place of illness or uncertainty. It became a place of love, gratitude, and cherished memories. The patient thanked every member of the team. He told us that this was one of the most memorable birthdays of his life.

That day taught me a lesson I carry with me even now.

We often become consumed by deadlines, responsibilities, ambitions, and the everyday challenges of life. We postpone celebrations. We delay expressing gratitude. We assume there will always be another opportunity, another birthday, another tomorrow.

But for many people, tomorrow is not guaranteed.

This couple reminded me that life’s greatest treasures are not found in material possessions or achievements. They are found in relationships, shared moments, and the simple privilege of spending time with those we love.

As I left the room that evening, I realized that while we may not always have the power to change outcomes, we always have the power to make a difference. Sometimes, that difference comes not through medicine or technology, but through compassion. That birthday celebration was a reminder that healthcare is not only about adding days to life; it is about adding life to each day.

Kauvery Hospital Chennai & Lions District 3241C Launches Mobile Mammogram to Improve Access to Early Breast Cancer Screening

Kauvery Hospital successfully launched its Mobile Mammogram Unit, a CSR initiative in association with Lions Club of Chennai KVG Charitable Trust of Lions District 3241 C. The dedicated mammography van aims to improve access to early screening, especially for women who may face challenges in visiting a hospital or diagnostic centre for routine mammograms. By bringing screening services into communities, the mobile unit will support timely detection and encourage greater awareness about breast health.

The Mammogram van was flagged off by Thiru P Venkatramanan, Hon’ble Minister of Food and Civil Supplies, Government of Tamil Nadu.

The Mobile Mammogram Unit is equipped to provide digital mammography screening in a convenient and accessible setting. It will travel to residential areas, workplaces, community centres, and other locations across suburban and urban regions, helping women prioritize preventive health.

In addition to digital mammography for breast cancer screening, the mobile unit will also offer Pap smear and Colposcopy services, making it an all-in-one women’s wellness unit focused on preventive screening and early diagnosis. Pap smear tests help screen for early changes in the cervix that may indicate cervical cancer or pre-cancerous conditions, while colposcopy allows for a closer examination of the cervix when further evaluation is required. The unit will also have women consultants and radiologists from Kauvery Hospital, who will counsel women on the findings and advise them on the next steps, wherever required.

Kauvery Hospitals Launches Two of the World’s Most Advanced Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA) Systems in Chennai – Revolutionizing Atrial Fibrillation Treatment in Tamilnadu

Kauvery Hospital Chennai has launched two of the world’s most advanced Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA) programme in Tamil Nadu, marking a significant milestone in the treatment of heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias).

The programme introduces two of the world’s most advanced PFA technologies—Medtronic PulseSelect™ at Alwarpet and Biosense Webster Varipulse™ at Vadapalani, the latter integrated with an advanced 3D cardiac mapping system.

This is the first time that both PulseSelect™ and Varipulse™, along with a 3D mapping-integrated PFA platform, have been introduced in Tamil Nadu. This milestone further reinforces Kauvery Hospitals’ position at the forefront of innovation in cardiac electrophysiology and advanced heart rhythm care.

Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA) is a next-generation treatment for heart rhythm disorders, particularly atrial fibrillation (AF), one of the most common cardiac arrhythmias. Unlike conventional ablation techniques that use heat (radiofrequency ablation) or extreme cold (cryoablation), PFA uses precisely controlled electrical pulses to selectively target and eliminate the cells responsible for abnormal heart rhythms.

This process, known as electroporation, enables targeted treatment of affected heart tissue while minimising impact on surrounding structures such as the oesophagus, phrenic nerve, and blood vessels. As a non-thermal technology, PFA represents a significant advancement in both safety and procedural efficiency.

With growing global clinical experience, PFA is increasingly being recognised as one of the most important recent advances in the management of cardiac arrhythmias.
