Our dearest K-Way Readers,

Happy to welcome you all to the gratitude month of the year – November!

This powerful word THANK YOU is meant to show our gratitude. Moreover, even if we have forgotten to say that to someone, here is the chance for it.

November is celebrated for its various special days and one among those days is Thanksgiving Day.

Why do we need to thank anyone?

“They are only doing their duty.”

“It’s not out of the way.”

“Are we not paying for it?”

“It’s only our right, isn’t it?”

Yes, all these lines may go through your mind. They may be correct too, but let me tell you a secret – do you know what is the most contagious action? It is a smile and it comes automatically when we show our gratitude and when we utter the word thank you.

You will notice that immediately the smile is seen on the other person too! That’s how contagious a smile can be.

Next, medically you would have heard that laughter is the best medicine. We even promote laughing as an exercise in many places. But what we don’t realize is that a simple thank you will bring about a similar effect on our health.

When we say “thank you” to someone, it can make them feel happy, appreciated and valued, which in turn can increase their own feelings of self-esteem, self-respect and positivity. This can create a positive feedback loop, where our expressions of gratitude lead to more positive interactions in our society.

There is always a good chance to feel low, unwanted and dejected in today’s fast world where we hardly communicate. When gratitude is not shown, it further results in frustration and depression as everyone needs to be valued.

Medically, how does showing gratitude help? Just imagine you are being thanked for the simple gestures – it will definitely bring a big smile to your face. This elevates your mood and increases the urge to do something better, and increases your productivity.

Research has proved that gratitude elevates happiness – an emotion which is most essential to make us productive.

Positive Emotions: Gratitude can help people feel more positive emotions and enjoy good experiences.

Better Health: Gratitude can improve physical health and sleep.

Stronger Relationships: Gratitude can help people build and maintain strong relationships.

Resilience: Gratitude can help people deal with adversity and tragedy.

Higher Self-Esteem: Gratitude can increase self-esteem.

Better Career: Gratitude can boost career.

Brain Activation: Expressing gratitude can activate the brain’s reward center.

Gratitude is the appreciation of what is good in life, whether it’s tangible or intangible. It can be applied to the past, present, or future. For example, you can be grateful for positive memories from your childhood, be present in the moment, or be hopeful for the future.

Gratitude is a quality that can be cultivated and is more than just a feeling. It can become a personality trait that can help people be happier.

Science has proven that neurotransmitters which are associated with our emotions are also directly linked with gratitude.

Practicing gratitude has been linked to several medical benefits, including improved mood, better sleep quality, reduced stress and anxiety, decreased depression symptoms, enhanced resilience, stronger relationships, and even potential positive impacts on heart health by regulating blood pressure and reducing inflammation; essentially, a grateful mindset can contribute to overall mental and physical well-being.

Gratitude can help form and maintain stronger relationships with friends and family and can help reduce negative feelings like anger, bitterness, envy, and greed.

Gratitude can lead to greater generosity, kindness, and helpfulness. Thus, it can help expand your social network and make it less likely to feel lonely.

Gratitude helps in being consistent with physical activity and exercise which in turn helps improve work performance and satisfaction.

Gratitude can help lower symptoms of physical pain.

Gratitude can help coronary patients recover faster.

To summarize, gratitude strengthens our immune system and creates a path to good health.

This November, let’s thank and show our gratitude to one another. Gratitude need not be shown through gifts, just a compassionate look in our eyes, a care in our touch and a smile on our lips with a thank you is enough!

This month’s articles are also tagged with gratitude notes from our dear patients.

Read and enjoy.

Happy November!

Hello Kauverians! Welcome to Nurturing November
By Uma & Vishnu

As we step into November, let us embrace a month dedicated to nurturing care, support, and our collective wellbeing. November invites us to cultivate gratitude and strengthen the bonds within our community, focusing on the essential aspects of mental health and physical wellness.

Before we immerse ourselves in this month’s activities, let’s reflect on the inspiring moments of Optimistic October. We took a moment to reflect on the principles of peace and service during Gandhi Jayanthi. We celebrated Ayudha Puja, honouring the tools that empower us, and enjoyed the beautiful Golu decorations and special puja’s organized by various departments during Navaratri. Our commitment to mental health was reinforced on World Mental Health Day. Our efforts during Breast Cancer Awareness Month and International Infection Prevention Week highlighted the importance of safety and proactive health management. During International Infection Prevention Week, we conducted special training sessions and awareness activities, focusing on hand hygiene, proper sterilization techniques, and the safe handling of medical equipment to ensure the highest standards of care. As we welcomed the joyous spirit of Diwali, we shared sweets among staff and patients, spreading happiness and fostering a sense of community.

As Nurturing November unfolds, we continue this journey with renewed enthusiasm, ready to explore opportunities for growth and healing.

This month, we will observe World Diabetes Day on November 14th. With a theme focused on access to diabetes care, our team will engage in educational programs and community outreach, emphasizing prevention, early detection, and management. Together, we can empower individuals to take charge of their health and make informed choices.

November is a special time for gratitude as we approach Thanksgiving, a moment to pause and reflect on the blessings we share. Let’s take this opportunity to sincerely thank our patients for placing their trust in us for their care. Your confidence in our team fuels our commitment to excellence and compassion.

We also express our heartfelt appreciation to all the caregivers at Kauvery. Your unwavering dedication and tireless efforts profoundly impact our community. You embody compassion, nurturing and healing those in need. By fostering a culture of appreciation, we strengthen our Kauvery family and enhance the care we provide. Together, let’s continue to uplift one another and celebrate the incredible work we do!

As we prepare for the festive season, let’s carry the spirit of gratitude and compassion into our daily interactions. By nurturing our mental and physical health, we can illuminate the lives of those we serve and foster hope within our community.

Together, let’s continue to cultivate a supportive and vibrant atmosphere at Kauvery! Happy Nurturing November to you all!

A journey of Healing and Connection: From Tanzania to India

Dayana Briskilla
Ms.Dayana Briskilla
Service Excellence.

Dear readers,
I’m excited to share an insightful story of one of our patients, a seasoned traveler who spent his life guiding others through the stunning landscapes of Tanzania. Recently he came to India seeking medical care for gangrene in his right toe, which lead to a week’s stay in our hospital.

During this time, we connected well and found common a ground through our shared love for animals. He would often tell me stories about his experiences in the wild, how he would go hunting, and how he could sense when animals were about to attack. Whenever he talked about animals, he seemed to forget his pain and became full of energy.

At first, a caretaker accompanied him, but later his wife joined him for the surgery. She was very thankful for the care and support our doctors and nurses gave him, especially while she was not there.

Being 73 years old, he was not sure how the surgery would go, especially being in a different country. However, he developed great trust in our doctor and his team, and with their excellent care, he made a successful recovery. He often mentioned how expensive and lacking quality health care is in his home country, and he was impressed by the quality of care and professionalism he found in India.

This story shows how important medical tourism is for people from developing countries.

It is a way for patients to get the treatment they need, and we are happy to be part of that. In the end, what truly stands out is how health care can go beyond physical healing it connects people from different parts of the world, bringing us closer through compassion, care, and shared experiences. It reminds us that no matter where we come from, kindness and support can make any journey a little lighter. Through stories like his, we are reminded that our greatest duty is to care for one another, and in doing so, we make the world a little better, one life at a time.
