See Beyond Symptoms. Detect What Others Can't.

At Kauvery Hospital, our Nuclear Medicine & PET-CT Department enables early and accurate detection of cancer, cardiac, neurological and other conditions—often before symptoms even begin with accurate staging.

What is Nuclear Medicine?

Nuclear Medicine is an advanced imaging specialty that uses small amounts of radioactive tracers to diagnose and evaluate diseases at a molecular level.

Unlike conventional imaging that shows structure, nuclear medicine reveals how organs and tissues are actually functioning.

This means:

  • Earlier detection
  • More precise diagnosis
  • Better treatment planning

What is PET-CT?

PET-CT combines two powerful technologies:

  • PET (Positron Emission Tomography): Detects metabolic activity
  • CT (Computed Tomography): Provides detailed anatomical imaging

Together, they create a comprehensive picture that helps doctors pinpoint disease with exceptional accuracy.

How a PET-CT Scan Works

A simple step-by-step journey designed for your comfort and clarity.

1

Arrival & Preparation

When you arrive, our team will guide you through a quick registration and preparation process. Basic checks like blood sugar, height, and weight may be done to ensure accurate results.

2

Tracer Injection

A small amount of radioactive tracer is injected through a vein in your arm. This tracer is safe and naturally travels to areas of abnormal activity in your body.

3

Quiet Uptake Period

You will rest comfortably for about 60–90 minutes while the tracer distributes through your body.
During this time, you may be asked to drink water and relax quietly.

4

The Scan Begins

You will lie down on a cushioned table that gently moves through the PET-CT scanner.

  • The CT scan captures detailed images of your body’s structure
  • The PET scan highlights areas of metabolic activity

Together, they provide a complete and highly accurate picture.

5

During the Scan

  • The scan is painless and non-invasive
  • You may be asked to stay still and occasionally hold your breath
  • Our team monitors you at all times and stays connected via intercom
6

Completion & Aftercare

Once the scan is complete, you can return to your normal routine.
The tracer naturally leaves your body, usually through urine, within a short time.

7

Team

Our expert team will then guide you from there for your safety and comfort.”
