On the occasion of World Heart Day, Kauvery Hospital launched Restart Heart Foundation, an initiative to address the rising numbers of cardiac arrests, educate the community on prevention of cardiac arrests and equip them with the skills to provide immediate response during emergencies.
Cardiac Arrest
A Cardiac Arrest is a situation when the heart stops functioning , and pumping of blood is stopped leading to death. However, the heart rhythm can be revived by administering early CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and early defibrillation shock. This timely response when someone suffers a cardiac arrest can help revive the heart function. This emergency situation can happen anytime , anywhere and it is reported that almost 70% of cardiac arrests take place out of hospitals.
Steps to save a life

3. Provide CPR
4. Use an AED if available
5. Continue till ambulance arrives
Automated External Defibrillators
Automated External Defibrillator is a device that is used to revert the erratic electrical activity of the heart when someone is in a cardiac arrest. The portable device that gives voice based step by step instructions, can be used by anyone in a public place to help revive the heart rhythm of an individual who suffers a cardiac arrest, the portable device gives a voice based step by step intruction, that can be used by anyone in the public place to help reverse the electrical rhythm of the heart of someone who has suffered a cardiac arrest before the ambulance or medical help arrives. It is known to help improve the outcome of out of hospital cardiac arrests
The foundation shall focus on installing over 100 defibrillators within the next 3 years at prime locations across Chennai and Tamil Nadu. Additionally, over ten thousand individuals across schools, colleges, corporates, government offices, shall be given training and certifications by a team of doctors and paramedics to use the AED machines.
