“Dr. T. S. Harshavardhan is an internationally trained nephrologist recognised for his expertise in chronic kidney disease, complex renal transplantation, and precision nephrology. With over 13 years of clinical practice, he brings together exceptional academic training from some of India’s most prestigious institutions with advanced clinical and research experience from the United Kingdom’s leading renal centres.

Having graduated from PSG Institute of medical sciences & Research, Coimbatore as the best outgoing MBBS graduate, he completed his MD in General Medicine from Christian Medical College, Vellore (Jacob Memorial Prize for best outgoing MD student), followed by DM in Nephrology from Government Stanley Medical College, Chennai (TN Dr MGR medical university gold medal). He further holds the Doctorate of National Board (Nephrology), along with the MRCP (UK) and the European Specialty Examination in Nephrology, underscoring his commitment to international standards of excellence.

He has worked as a consultant nephrologist & Assistant Professor of Nephrology in Chennai between 2020 and 2023. His clinical expertise has further been shaped through rich UK-NHS experience (2023-26). He served as a Senior Clinical Fellow at St George’s University Hospitals, a major transplant centre in South London, and later as a Consultant Nephrologist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, primarily based at Hammersmith Hospital – one of Europe’s premier centres for renal medicine and transplantation. There, he developed advanced expertise in complex and high-risk renal transplantation with challenging immunological profiles and honed his skills in long-term transplant care.

Dr. Harshavardhan’s practice is distinguished by a strong focus on precision medicine. His research work includes pharmacogenomic modelling to individualise immunosuppressive therapy (including a presentation at the British Transplantation Society, 2025) and advanced transplant diagnostics such as donor-derived cell-free DNA for early and accurate detection of renal transplant graft injury (TANKER Best research paper award, ISN-Southern chapter 2020). He also has a special interest in renal genetics reflecting his commitment to next-generation nephrology.

He has recently been part of a pioneering research initiative in the United Kingdom aimed at redefining how we measure kidney function (e-GFR) across diverse populations, with a particular focus on improving diagnostic accuracy for South Asian and Indian patients—contributing to more equitable and precise kidney care globally. For patients this would mean detecting kidney disease early and instituting preventive therapy before kidney failure sets in.
