The Circle of Care: When a Son Becomes a mother
Patient: Young, handsome, cheerful, and well-built man.
Condition: A hole in the heart that was discovered incidentally.
Patient's Story
A young, handsome and cheerful man was admitted to the hospital. He did not look like a typical heart patient, His words quickly confirmed that impression’ ” I just came for a Master Health Checkup , they found a hole in my heart which was closed yesterday with a device “.I wished him all the best, greeted his mother who was standing by and was about to move on when she announced “ My son is my mother!.
Being a writer, I instantly sensed a story and waited for her to share hers.
She said ” I was losing strength in my hands and legs and could barely walk or feel or hold anything with my hands. I had surgery on my neck”. She showed me the long operation scar running down her neck and continued- “I was like a baby in bed. My son took complete care of me – he fed me, bathed me, and helped me to walk again “
Conclusion
This highlights a profound and beautiful reversal of traditional family roles. It serves as a powerful reminder that the child can become a nurturing parent figure, stepping up to protect, feed, and heal a parent when most vulnerable.
