Objectives

Continual Nursing Education is essential for ensuring that nurses stay up to date with the latest clinical practices, advancement in healthcare, and changes in regulations and policies. It also helps nurses improve their skills, enhance patient care, and meet licensing requirements. Nurses are required to earn certain number of continuing education credits to maintain their license.

Around 90 registered nurses are working in our unit. We set the target to organize in – house CNE programme at our unit. So, we decided to have the CNE programme in September 2024. We chose the topic of “Nursing Assessment” from the recommended topics.

We assigned the presentations to our in – house faculty and requested them to prepare their presentations.

On the day of CNE

We started the programme with lamp lighting by the Head of the Department, members & the Unit Head. The conference hall filled with the positive vibe of having achieved something new to our hospital. Our Medical Admin and Operations Head shared a few words about the learning points and encouraged everyone to benefit from the CNE Programme.

We had organized the registration process for Nurse through a google link with proper name, mail ID and phone Number.38 staff nurses participated, mentored by 7 members of the faculty. Around 8:30 am we started the classes by the faculties, as per schedule. Faculty had prepared Pre and Post questionnaire and Pre test was conducted, after registration process was completed.

The classes were held on schedule. There were more informative, experimental and practical session with dummies. Games were conducted related to the topics that kept all participants fully engaged and more connected. So, finally, all the topics and post- test were also conducted. On that post- test feedback everyone gave positive feedback about the session. After the session was completed, we gave away certificates to all the participants, our Unit Head distributed certificates.

We had encouraged the clinical in charge’s to taken the classes. After we did the CNE programme, 4 hr of Credit score has been credited to every staff who attended. We received positive comments about the program, Consequently Staff’ morale improved in the organization.

Barriers we faced

The barriers that may prevent nurses from participating in ongoing learning are time constraints, financial constraints, lack of access to resources, etc., Staff were struggling to get the credit hours in time for renewal of registration.

Conclusion

Continual nursing education is vital for the personal and professional development of Nurses, it will ultimately improve  quality of health care and thus, patient outcomes . It also supports nurses in meeting licensing and certification requirements. As Health care evolves, so must be knowledge and skills of nurses, making ongoing education a cornerstone of nursing practice.
