Abstract

Intravenous (IV) therapy plays a vital role in modern patient care, requiring specialized knowledge and technical expertise from nurses. IV Nurse Day was celebrated on 23rd January 2026 at Kauvery Hospital, Radial Road, to recognize and appreciate the dedication and expertise of IV nurses in ensuring safe and effective infusion therapy. The program included a ceremonial inauguration with a cake-cutting event by hospital leadership, followed by educational skill stations and interactive games focused on IV therapy practices. Six skill stations covered essential areas such as site selection, IV-line care, central line care, IV complications, extravasation and infiltration management, and paediatric and neonatal cannulation. Interactive activities including quizzes, connection games, and creative video presentations encouraged active participation and knowledge reinforcement among nurses. The celebration provided a platform for professional learning, teamwork, and recognition of nursing contributions, ultimately strengthening evidence based IV practices and enhancing patient safety.

Program Description

IV Nurse Day was celebrated on 23rd January 2026 at Kauvery Hospital, Radial Road, to recognize and appreciate the vital contributions of IV nurses in delivering safe and effective infusion therapy. The event brought together IV nurses, nursing staff, and nursing leaders, creating an atmosphere of pride, recognition, and professional learning.

The celebration commenced with a cake-cutting ceremony as a mark of appreciation for the dedication and expertise of IV nurses, who are often regarded as the “Unsung heroes” of patient care. The event was headed by the Facility Director, Chief Nursing Officer, Deputy Nursing Superintendent, nursing leaders, and the nursing team, highlighting the organization’s support and commitment toward nursing excellence.

Following the inaugural ceremony, six skill stations were conducted to strengthen practical knowledge and promote best practices in intravenous therapy. The stations covered important aspects such as IV site selection, IV-line care, central line care, identification and management of IV complications, extravasation and infiltration management, and specialized techniques for paediatric and neonatal IV cannulation. These stations used interactive and hands-on learning methods, enabling nurses to actively participate and enhance their clinical skills.

In addition to the skill stations, several interactive games and educational activities were organized to make the program engaging and knowledge driven. Activities included Giggles Without Words a non-verbal communication game related to IV procedures, Florence IV Minds a quiz competition on IV therapy and infection prevention, Brain Bridge a connection-based skill activity focusing on IV medications and complications and Igniting Health Through IV Care a creative reels/short video activity highlighting safe IV practices and innovative patient care. These sessions encouraged teamwork, critical thinking, creativity, and active participation among nurses while reinforcing evidence based IV care principles.

Conclusion

The IV Nurses Day celebration at Kauvery Hospital was a successful and enriching event that highlighted the critical role of IV nurses in patient care. Through educational skill stations, engaging games, and leadership recognition, the program effectively strengthened nurses’ knowledge, practical skills, and confidence in IV therapy practices. The event also fostered teamwork, creativity, and professional pride among nursing staff. Such initiatives contribute significantly to promoting safe infusion practices, enhancing patient outcomes, and supporting the continuous development of nursing professionals.
