Introduction

“Connect and Reflect” is a unique employee engagement initiative designed to strengthen work-place bonding, enhance self-awareness, and promote mental well-being. The program was designed under the framework of WHO (World Health Organization) Life Skills. Sessions are conducted around the 10 core life skills, encouraging open communication, emotional expression, and mutual understanding beyond day-to-day work tasks.

The aim is to create a positive and supportive environment where everyone feels valued, heard, and motivated.

Let’s take a step together – to reflect, to connect, and to grow as one team!

Objectives of the session

  • To foster a sense of connection and trust among employees.
  • To enhance communication and team spirit in the workplace.
  • To encourage self-reflection and gratitude among staff members.
  • To create a supportive and collaborative work culture.

Study design

A descriptive evaluation study was conducted among employees who participated in the “Connect and Reflect” session. Participants provided individual feedback on the session using a structured rating scale with four response categories: Excellent, Very Good, Good, and Fair. The collected responses were analysed descriptively using frequencies and percentages to assess participants’ overall perception and satisfaction with the session.

Activities

Mood checkEach person shares a word that reflects their current mood and then explains why they feel that mood. The purpose is to help them identify their emotions and analyse the reason behind that particular emotion in the moment.

Benefits: Builds emotional awareness and self-reflection in the group.
Two minutes of deep breathingA short, guided breathing exercise to help employees relax, reduce stress and prepare their minds for the session.

Benefits: Promotes calmness, focus and presence.
Human knotParticipants are divided into two groups and made to stand in a circle. They are asked to hold each other’s hands, and the group is tangled into a knot. Without letting go of hands, they must untangle themselves back into a full circle.

Benefits: Improves teamwork, builds communication, patience and problem-solving skills.
Cup snatchParticipants stand in a line or around a table with one plastic cup each. They must grab the cup only when the facilitator says the signal word (e.g., "Cup!"). Other action commands (e.g., touch your head, clap your hands, touch your knees) are given to test attention. Grabbing the cup at the wrong time results in a penalty or elimination. The game speeds up gradually, and the player with the most correct grabs wins.

Benefits: Improves active listening and attention; develops quick decision-making and reaction time.
Balloon balancing Pyramid challengeEach participant is given a balloon and a set of plastic cups. Players must keep the balloon in the air without letting it touch the ground while building a cup pyramid. The first participant to complete the pyramid successfully wins.

Benefits: Improves multitasking ability and concentration; develops hand-eye coordination and increases reaction time.
Burst your stressEach participant is given a balloon and asked to think about one thing that has been causing them stress, after which they blow air into the balloon. Once everyone is ready, they burst the balloon together, symbolising the release of their stress and negative emotions.

Benefits: Promotes emotional release in a playful way; reduces tension and anxiety.

Expected outcomes

  • Improved interpersonal connection among employees.
  • A relaxed and positive start to team engagement
  • Increased self-awareness and mutual appreciation
  • Stronger team bonding and workplace appreciation.

Results

All the results were recorded based on the participant’s responses, by giving them a set of questioners via google form.

Discussion

The program was developed centered on the WHO Life Skills, focused as an employee wellness initiative wherein employees at Kauvery Hospital are engaged in guided activities to boost morale.

The overall feedback indicates that participants had a highly positive experience from the sessions.

In Figure 1, 96% (228) of the participants showed interest in attending similar sessions in the future while only 4% (9) were not as interested. This shows that participants are willing to engage and attend similar sessions in the future, indicating that the objectives of the initiative are being met, and employees feel drawn to the activities conducted through the program.

In Figure 2, among the 237 participants who evaluated the session, 195 (82.3%) rated it as excellent, 40 (16.9%) as very good, and 2 (0.8%) as good, while none rated it as fair. Overall, 99.2% of participants provided a very good or excellent rating, demonstrating a highly favorable perception of the session.

In Figure 3, represents the overall responses received from participants across various categories as follows:

The training session was a major success, with 230 of 237 participants finding it engaging and 197 rating the facilitation as Excellent or Very Good. The well-planned structure helped 183 attendees feel relaxed, while 175 reported it sparked meaningful reflection to improve their work environments. Furthermore, 215 participants expressed satisfaction with the trainer’s energetic approach, leading to a massive 228 individuals requesting future sessions.

Conclusion

The “Connect and Reflect” program is designed to create meaningful communication, stronger workplace relationships, and a supportive environment. Through guided activities, this initiative allows employees to share ideas, understand one another better, and build trust within the team.

By promoting open reflection and healthy connection, this program helps improve cooperation, positivity, and overall work culture. Connect & Reflect will continue to serve as a platform where every voice is valued, and every connection contributes to a happier and more united Kauvery family.
