WIN-TNCON 2022- Auspicious beginnings

Women in Nephrology (WIN) was founded in 1983 by women in the field of Nephrology as an offshoot of International Society of Nephrology. The overriding goal was to develop and provide mentors to women in the field. WIN also advocates within the nephrology community for education and research relevant to women.

With the guidance of WIN, WIN- INDIA was formally inaugurated in 2021. The mission is to ignite interest in nephrology among young practitioners and to effectively and meticulously mentor them in various aspects of kidney diseases. WIN-India endeavors to unite the young nephrologists of the country and enhance their knowledge through the immense experience of the veterans and promote research in the field of kidney diseases. WIN India also provides a platform to outreach and educate the general public and kidney patients about kidney diseases in men and women. There are about 400 women nephrologists in India now.

WIN-INDIA has its own publication (e-journal) called Indian Journal of Kidney Disease. It conducts monthly virtual clinical meeting with eminent speakers, and PG teaching programs with case presentations and quiz. WIN-INDIA’s first national conference was held in Aug 2022 as a hybrid program in Hyderabad.

Tamilnadu chapter of WIN- INDIA was formed in 2022 and the first Conference was held in Yercaud, Salem in October 2022, organized by self with full organizational backup by from Hospital, Salem.

The meeting was held on a pleasant October weekend in the woods of Yercaud, and attended by vibrant women nephrologists from all over Tamilnadu. The program started with sharing of her rich experience by Dr. Gomathi, the first women multi organ transplant surgeon from India, an amazing cross talk between the Nephrons and the Hepatocyte!

Then Dr. Muthu Jayaraman took us on a deep dive into the induction immunosupression.

This was followed by the inaugural function with the ever-active Dr. Urmila, WIN-INDIA president as the chief guest and Dr. Muthu Jayaraman, founding member of WIN-India and WIN-TN as the guest of honour – memorable moments for WIN TN.

The next day it all started with Sugary sweet talk on NODAT by Dr. Nisha.

Then we had the fiery Debate between the Dynamic Dr. Abirami and the Vibrant Dr. Ranjani, on the status of the two new kids on the block – ABOi Tx and Swap.

Then, Dr. Sandhya empathetically presented the struggles and stepping stones to realize the utopian dream of post-transplant pregnancy.
