N. Dharsshini

Group Clinical Pharmacist, Kauvery Hospital, Trichy, Tamil Nadu

Background

I am N. Dharsshini, a clinical pharmacist with a strong interest in data- driven decision-making and patient centric care.

I started my journey in Kauvery hospital in the department of clinical pharmacy department as an Intern. My internship with a great mentorship shaped my skills and also paved the way for a full – time role – it turned opportunity into employment.

Early Days

Nightingale Vol 2: Issue 3, Nov 2023: My first paper was on the summary of my final year thesis titled “Personalizing 5- FU Treatment in head and neck cancer: A TDM Pilot Study”

Nightingale Vol 2: Issue 4, Dec 2024: Following that, I wrote two case report papers titled “Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: a case report” and “Cerebral malaria: management with artesunate” during my internship, inspired from the clinical experiences and observations made during ward rounds.

Timeline of the evolution of my articles

Kauverian Vol 5: Issue 13, February 2024: Publication of “Exploring complex cardiac cases: Insights from diverse presentations in mid-aged women “.

This was my initial exposure to clinical case series and collaboration with other clinical pharmacists.

Kauverian Vol 6: Issue 1, March 2024:

Publication of “Endocrine complications of growth hormone secreting tumor: A case report. “

It was a rare diagnosis, described by me, with with improved writing skills

I was inspired to write from hearing patients’ stories during ward rounds.

Shifting in themes – Spotlight article

Kauverian Vol 6: Issue 3, May 2024: marked my transition to data- driven studies and also collaboration with other clinical pharmacists.

My original data- driven research journey on heart failure reflected this shift -studying the transition from early emphasis on symptomatic relief and diuretics to exploring GDMT (Guideline Directed Medical Therapy), and their real – world implementation.

This spotlight article aimed to trace that journey – how heart failure care evolved from reactive management to proactive, evidence based intervention, and how clinical pharmacists can bridge the gap between evidence and practice

Nightingale Vol 2: Issue 9, MAY 2024: Focusing on niche areas

I undertook a literature review titled “Advances in cardiac amyloidosis treatment: A review on Tafamidis”. This review highlighted Tafamidis as a groundbreaking treatment for amyloid cardiomyopathy offering improved survival.

Kauverian Vol 6: Issue 5, July 2024: I attended a CME on “Optimizing the patient journey in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy— patient and clinician perspectives” and summarized the CME from Medscape. “This new beginning became the seed for many great Journey’s “

Turning rough drafts into research: Early challenges in Scientific writing

The art of writing a good manuscript is making it readable for everyone – when you think from the reader’s perspective, you create a truly impactful paper. Initial struggles with structuring and meeting standard quality helped build clarity, confidence and a stronger grasp of academic writing.

Kauverian Vol 6: Issue 7, Sep 2024: featured an original study, a retrospective one, on Scrub Typhus in pediatric population. This study delved into the clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes of patients with scrub typhus, offering valuable insights to improve diagnosis and management of this often overlooked tropical disease

Integrative Narratives

Kauverian Vol 6: Issue 7, Sep 2024: Narratives from patients during ward rounds helped to write the case report on. Clinical Pharmacy Approach to a patient on multiple anticonvulsants for “Difficult to control’’ seizure disorder.

This taught me an important lesson on undertaking journeys in writing “Listen to your patient, they are telling you the diagnosis”. This timeless advice from Sir William Osler shall remind healthcare professionals to value patient narratives.

Uncovering fresh perspectives in writing – The Journal Scan

Kauverian Vol 6: Issue 8, Oct 2024: For the first time I extended my skills to writing journal scans, critically reviewing multiple research articles to stay updated. Writing journal scans helped me understand current trends and instilled improved ability to summarize and evaluate scientific literature effectively. My first journal scan was titled “A review of five recent papers of immediate clinical significance, harvested from major international journals: Reviews on Doxycycline for Scrub Typhus”.

Serial HF Audit

Kauverian Vol 7: Issue 1, Dec 2024: Continuous serial HF audit on GDMT prescription was done and published.

Kauverian Vol 7: Issue 2, Jan 2025: Continuous serial HF audit was published, titled Monthly Heart Failure audit report on GDMT in Heart City, January 2024.

A milestone to cherish

Kauverian Vol 7: Issue 1, March 2025: One of my most impactful contributions was a clinical audit on SLE, APLA and Pregnancy in Kauvery Hospitals – developed through swift data collection and analysis. This rapid yet detailed work offered valuable insights into high-risk autoimmune pregnancies was presented at World Rheumatology Forum – 2024 and later published.

The End Game – Young Women and CAD

Kauverian Vol 7: Issue 5, July 2025: One of the most anticipated datasets concerning Women and CAD (coronary artery disease) was thoroughly analyzed and subsequently published, providing valuable insights into this significant health concerns.

Launched The Bulletin from the Clinical Pharmacist

March 2024: With an immense mentorship and growing experience and inspiration, I initiated the next phase launching The Bulletin from the Clinical Pharmacist, a dedicated platform to share clinical insights, case updates, drug related updates from real- world hospital practice. This platform served to showcase the vital contributions of clinical pharmacists in optimizing therapy.

Topics of Bulletin written and published

  1. Ciprofloxacin induced Steven Johnson syndrome – toxic epidermal necrolysis.
  2. Bisphosphonate induced Uveitis
  3. Drug induced urticaria
